Ingredient Spotlight: Favorite Fruit Seed Oils

Welcome to my first blog. Today, I'm excited to share one of my favorite topics: the power of quality raw materials to formulate winning beauty products. My knowledge about these oils comes from years of experience in the beauty industry and extensive research.

Passion Fruit Seed Oil (aka Maracuja)

Passion fruit is one of my favorite drinks, usually found at Asian bakeries or restaurants, it is just the perfect combination of sweet and tart. The drink is made of crushed passionfruit pulp, ice, and water, with the addition of the seeds that sink to the bottom… the natural crunch is so satisfying! …And what better way to start than by exploring the unique and versatile passionfruit seed oil? With its natural fruity and floral aroma, yellow hue, and high antioxidant content, this oil stands out as a delightful addition to different types of formulations. Its versatility in lip care, skin applications, and as an ingredient in foundations or lotions, makes it a valuable asset in the beauty industry. Adding a couple of drops in your favorite foundation or body lotion makes the skin glow.

Let's delve into the versatility of Passion Fruit Seed Oil. This unique and sometimes costly oil is a game-changer for lip care. The delicate lip tissue is prone to drying, flaking, and moisture loss, and the natural characteristics of the oil in a lip balm or lip gloss formula can help heal the lips. But its benefits don't stop there. Passion fruit seed oil is also naturally high in antioxidants, including linoleic acid and all the essential fatty acids, making it a fantastic addition to skin formulas, whether for the face or body. This oil, also known as Maracuja Oil, is native to South America but is now enjoyed worldwide. It can be used and enjoyed at 100% in the formulation, making it a versatile addition to your beauty arsenal. Indeed, this magical oil can be infused with foundations to add a little more glow, or a few drops can be added to lotion for those extra dry days. The possibilities are endless, inspiring you to create your own unique beauty products.

Formulation Ideas:

  • Multipurpose Balm: for dry spots that need a little extra love
  • Overnight Lip Oil Mask: perfect for when the weather plummets and your lips take a hit
  • Hair and Scalp Oil: to help mend split ends

Watermelon Seed Oil

I LOOOOOOOOVE watermelon, it is so delicious, nutritious and nature’s hydration therapy. YUM! Wait until you learn more about the magical seeds! Let's shine a light on watermelon seed oil. This oil is a true unsung hero in the skincare world. It's a multitasker, moisturizing, regenerating, and protectant to the skin. The seeds of the watermelon are dried first, then cold pressed to extract all the seed oil goodness. It contains Omega and Linoleic acids, which help remove sebum and cleanse the skin. It is also an excellent oil to blend with other oils. This material should be used from 1% to 10% of the formula. Appearance: It is a very light yellow liquid, which is Amber colored. Another product I love is watermelon fruit powder, which I will cover in a different blog. Watermelon Fruit powder is freeze-dried and added with other mild dry ingredients, and It makes the best powder cleanser I've ever used. Since this powder is high in Vitamin C, it leaves the skin FRESH and vibrant!
Some great products that I would use with this beautiful oil are:
After Sun Spray Lotion: moisturizing and protective, this would be a great way to cool off after being in the sun all day!
Hair scalp oil: Watermelon seeds contain naturally occurring linoleic acids, which help to remove excess sebum and make an excellent scalp treatment.
Body Scrub: This would also be a great oil to add to a body scrub since it has cleansing properties. It would help gently cleanse the skin along with the abrasive and moisturize at the same time. If you've ever had this experience, you know the feeling of buying a body scrub that leaves too much oily residue behind and seems impossible to wash off. (future formula?)

Pomegranate Seed Oil

Next, we have the royal pomegranate seed oil. Pomegranate seed oil is gaining widespread popularity due to its ability to nourish, moisturize, and improve skin elasticity. This antioxidant-rich oil has high concentrations of vitamin C and vitamin B five, which give it that anti-inflammatory property that many formulators gravitate to you. The seeds of pomegranate are cold pressed and refined. It has been studied that powerful antioxidants are found in pomegranate. This oil is very potent, so I would mix it with a different (LESS EXPENSIVE) carrier oil and still enjoy its benefits. It is suggested that it be used from 1 to 10%. This would be a fantastic body oil formulation, hair oil, and overnight cream. I hope to explore more with this oil.

PAPAYA SEED OIL

All held this excellent multi-use oil papaya seed oil. This wonderful oil has been used for centuries for the skin, body, and hair. It may be used in moisturizers to help firm, tone, and clarify the skin, helping clear blemishes. Soaps and lotions containing papaya olive oil are often used to exfoliate and moisturize the skin. The soil contains a naturally occurring enzyme named Papain; it has impressive refining and exfoliant properties and is also available as an extract to be added to water-based formulas at a minor concentration (be on the lookout for another blog post about that!) Papaya is naturally rich in nutrients, contains fatty acids and antioxidants, and is very high in vitamins E, C, and A; it is rare to have all. The skin quickly absorbs this fantastic oil, providing the protection and moisture it needs while refining it. Here is the vision i have with this magical oil:
Papaya Cleansing Balm: I can picture a smooth, creamy cleansing balm that melts into the skin! With papaya's naturally exfoliating properties, leaving it on for a minute or two can further help cleanse the skin.

Papaya Whipped Body Butter: I can picture this part of a summer collection with a fresh, natural scent. WOW!
